About bees and wasp

Bees and wasps are common in Arizona, especially during the warmer spring and summer months when flowering plants attract them for food and nesting opportunities. While bees—such as honeybees—are generally non-aggressive unless provoked, wasps like paper wasps and yellowjackets can be much more territorial and pose a greater sting risk to humans and pets. Infestations often occur when these insects find sheltered areas around homes—like eaves, attics, wall voids, or outdoor furniture—to build nests. Factors like abundant food sources (e.g., sugary drinks, fruit, or garbage), standing water, and open entry points can attract them. To prevent infestations, homeowners should keep food and trash sealed, repair screen holes, seal exterior cracks, and regularly inspect for early signs of nesting. Pest control professionals can safely locate and remove active hives or nests, apply preventative treatments around nesting hotspots, and advise on landscaping or structural modifications to discourage future activity—especially important in cases involving aggressive species or those nesting close to high-traffic areas.
